Hideru in Boston
Hideru in Boston
My younger brother visited me in Boston. His last visit was back to 2011, so it has been 8 years since then. He told me that Boston had changed a lot. I do agree bro. Since my brother got some time off from his job, he made it to Boston and spent a good time with me. Hideru didn’t ask me for any special but wanted to see my life in Boston. When he came to Boston last time, I was a graduate student as well as a professional MMA fighter, so I was busy then(Still busy), so hopefully, he saw some differences from back then and my update.
I took him to my daily training places, and actually, he helped my sessions by filming sparring footage and giving me water. The best part was that he finally met Rio in person. I have shown him Rio on facetime, but Hideru had never held her in his hands. Another family member meets another member!
We took a cruise on a beautiful day and really enjoyed the weather. Then visited New England Aquarium for the first time! Seriously? How come I haven’t been there for the last 15 years? My brother gave us an good opportunity to visit great places close to you. Sometimes when you are at too close to the location, “I can go there anytime“ mindset always works and end up with “never go“. Well, thanks, brother! My wife was so pumped for penguins at Aquarium, and she almost purchased an annual pass, so she can come to see cute penguins anytime after work.
Narrowing down what to do in Boston can be a challenge, but he has visited “tourist places“ already, so he spent more time on “ his memory in Boston“, such as good foods. Exploring Boston just reminded him of 8 years ago. It was easy for me to take him to famous places I have been to already, like freedom trail and duck tour. I used to live in North End and when Hideru visited me last time, I was living there, so he was really missing North end and Haymarket area.
When we were young, we didn’t spend much time together because of me. I used to live in a dorm at high school and then after graduating from high school, I came to the U.S, so we have been away for a while.
He was very inspired by Joi Ito’s book while staying at my place and read his book, so I took him to Media Lab at MIT. The future is being made here.
Of course, I bully him while he is in Boston. lol I took him to Sunday Funday Harvard Stadium Stair Sprint. Hideru successfully became a victim and joined our conditioning. He gassed out after a shot. Good try bro.
I cooked my favorite dish for his last night in Boston. Fresh sea foods from Boston and vegetables from farmer’s market make the best paella. Hope he enjoyed Boston!
