A Symphony of Memories: My Mother's Summer Visit to Boston

After five years, my mother returned to Boston. But this time, it was during the vibrant, sun-soaked summer days.

The Melody of the Past

My mother, a dedicated music teacher, instilled in me a love for music from a young age. She would sit me at the piano, her hands guiding mine over the keys. As a child, I resisted, but now, I look back on those moments with a longing. Today, she shares that love with my daughter, their duets a sweet melody filling our home.

The Great Outdoors: A Family Adventure

Our family adventure took us to the picturesque landscapes of Maine. Under the vast, open sky, we set up camp and embraced the tranquility of nature. I smoked bacon, its aroma mingling with the fresh air, and we feasted on succulent ribeye steaks. My daughter, with her untamed spirit, was in her element, a true lion cub in the wilderness.

A Dream Come True at Tanglewood

The highlight of her visit was a trip to Tanglewood, the esteemed summer home of the Boston Symphony Orchestra. My mother, a lifelong music lover, had dreamt of this moment. As we stepped into the Seiji Ozawa Hall, she was moved to tears, the magnitude of her dream becoming a reality overwhelming her.

A Special Celebration at Tanglewood

The evening at Tanglewood held a surprise. The venue celebrated the 90th birthday of John Williams, a maestro who has touched countless hearts with his music. The air buzzed with anticipation as the orchestra played a selection of his compositions, each note a testament to his genius.

The climax of the evening was a performance by Yo-Yo Ma, his cello singing a beautiful melody. But the night was far from over. John Williams took to the stage, his baton waving as he conducted the iconic Star Wars theme. The music filled the air, a symphony of notes that held us spellbound.

At the end of summer, my mother's visit was a symphony of memories, each moment a note in the melody of our summer. It was a testament to the power of music and the bonds it can forge. By the way, I did Tatekichen for her. I cooked a full-course meal for my mom and made Boston special Pescatore right before she went back to Japan. As I look forward to creating more such memories, I'm grateful for our harmonious summer.
