In the world of mixed martial arts, the bond between fighters can be as compelling as the battles they wage in the cage. For me, Tateki Matsuda, and my training partner, Kyle Bochniak, our journey to the Professional Fighters League (PFL) 2022 in Atlanta, Georgia, was a testament to our shared dedication, resilience, and friendship.

Training out of Broadway Jiu Jitsu, Kyle and I have been sparring partners, pushing each other to the limits in grueling sessions that tested our physical and mental fortitude. Alongside our head coach John Clark and teammate Rico Disciullo, we formed a formidable team, each bringing our unique strengths to the table.

The road to PFL5 2022 was not without its challenges. Despite our best efforts, Kyle lost his fight by TKO. A knee twist during a takedown defense marked the end of his bout, a painful moment that resonated with the entire team.

After the fight, I stepped up, carrying Kyle to the medical room and assisting him throughout the night. The bond between us was evident, our shared experiences in the cage forging a connection that went beyond the sport.

Our journey took an unexpected turn at the airport when Kyle, navigating the terminals in a wheelchair, revealed his decision to retire. The news hit me hard. He said that if he lose the next one, he will move to the next chapter. I knew he would retire, but I couldn’t take the word from his mouth. Kyle was not just a training partner but a constant friend in my daily routine. The realization that our paths were diverging was a poignant moment.

Yet, in the face of this change, I found resolve. Inspired by Kyle's courage, I decided that when the time came for my last fight, I would leave the ring with no regrets. I would give it my all, just as Kyle did. I will miss him at the gym, but I see his future success in running his own Martial Arts gym. Rest up and heal up the knee!

In the world of MMA, careers can be transient, and the future is always uncertain.
