Biohacker Summit Tokyo Postponed to October 2025: A Necessary Precaution

We regret to inform you that due to recent seismic activities and the subsequent advisory from the Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA), the Biohacker Summit Tokyo, initially scheduled for October 2024, has been postponed to October 2025. This decision, made with the utmost concern for the safety and well-being of all participants, speakers, and partners, was not taken lightly and reaffirms our commitment to your safety.

Seismic Activity and Safety Concerns

On August 8th, 2024, the JMA issued an unprecedented advisory warning of an increased risk of a significant earthquake following a 7.1-magnitude quake off the southern island of Kyushu. The concern is that this could be a foreshock to a larger quake, possibly reaching a magnitude of 9.1 and potentially triggering a tsunami. Although such advisories are not predictions, their statistical concern has led to significant caution, particularly given Japan’s history of seismic activity.

The day after this advisory, Tokyo experienced a 5.3 magnitude earthquake, raising concerns about the possibility of more significant, interconnected seismic events. While these earthquakes occurred on different fault lines, the historical precedent of significant earthquakes leading to further natural disasters, such as the 1707 eruption of Mt. Fuji, has amplified concerns.

Given the uncertainty and the potential risks, we have postponed the Biohacker Summit Tokyo to 2025. Based on the force majeure outlined in our General Terms of Participation, this decision aims to ensure the safety and peace of mind of all attendees, exhibitors, and partners. The new date for the Tokyo event is expected to be in October 2025, with the exact dates to be announced as soon as they are confirmed.

Options for Attendees and Exhibitors

For those who have already secured their tickets and participation in the 2024 event, you don't need to do anything. Your tickets will be valid for the rescheduled event in 2025. If preferred, attendees and exhibitors can request to transfer their participation to the Biohacker Summit 2025 in Tallinn, expected in May or June 2025. Details for the Tallinn event will be announced by September 2024.
