Barcelona 2020 Day2
a city of Gaudi's masterwork
Gaudi was an architect, sculptor and painter who is most famous for his work in Barcelona. Gaudi had an obsession with nature which can be seen throughout all of his work. Many people come to Barcelona just to experience Gaudi's architecture first hand; it really is worth the trip!
One of the most famous Gaudi buildings in Barcelona is Casa Milà, also known as La Pedrera. This building was completed in 1912 and has an interesting story behind it. The man who commissioned the building, Pere Milà, wanted a Gothic-style home but his wife, Roser Segimon, insisted on something more modern. Gaudi and Pere had an argument and in the end, Gaudi won. The result was an amazing mix of Gothic and Modernist styles into one home that truly reflects Gaudi's personality.
Visiting La Pedrera is a must-do on any trip to Barcelona; it really showcases what an architectural genius Gaudi was! Casa Milà is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site and an important cultural landmark of Barcelona.
Just around the corner from La Pedrera is Casa Batlló, another Gaudi masterpiece. This building was originally commissioned by Josep Batlló i Casanovas in 1904 but he died before it was completed. His wife, Amalia Esteve, took over the project and hired Gaudi to finish it. The final product is an incredible mix of organic and geometric shapes that make Casa Batlló one of the most unique buildings in Barcelona.
Casa Batlló is also a UNESCO World Heritage Site and an important cultural landmark of Barcelona. If you're interested in Gaudi's work, Casa Batlló is an absolute must-see!
