Back to the Roots: A Journey to Japan After 3 Years

Hello everyone! I'm excited to share my recent trip to Japan, a long overdue journey. It had been three years since my last visit, and I was eager to reconnect with my roots, family, and culture.

Quarantine in Hakone

Due to the Japanese government's regulations, I followed a 14-day quarantine upon arrival. Who's complaining when you get to spend it in the beautiful town of Hakone with your family? Nestled in the mountains, Hakone is a place of tranquility and natural beauty. The peaceful surroundings provided a perfect setting for reflection and relaxation. It was a unique opportunity to slow down and appreciate life's simple pleasures.

Biohacking Jet Lag

Jet lag can be a pain, especially when crossing multiple time zones. But with the right biohacking tools, it's manageable. I used light therapy to reset my internal clock, aligning it with the new time zone. This involved exposure to bright light in the morning to suppress melatonin production and promote wakefulness.

Breathwork exercises were another tool in my arsenal. These exercises helped reduce stress and improve sleep quality. They involved controlled, rhythmic breathing, which has a calming effect on the nervous system.

And I strategically timed my meals to help my body adjust to the new schedule. Eating according to the new time zone can help reset the body's internal clock. It worked like a charm!

Celebrating Love

One of the highlights of my trip was attending my younger brother's wedding. It was a joyous occasion filled with love, laughter, and lots of sake! The ceremony blended tradition and modernity beautifully, reflecting the couple's personalities. Seeing him embark on this new journey in life surrounded by friends and family was heartwarming.

Date Day in Tokyo

I also had the chance to take my wife on a date in Tokyo. We explored the bustling city, indulged in delicious sushi, and enjoyed the vibrant nightlife. Tokyo is a city that never sleeps, and every corner has something new to offer. From the high-tech skyscrapers to the traditional temples, it's a city that beautifully blends the old with the new. It was a day filled with love and adventure.

Reconnecting with Culture

During my stay, I attended a tea ceremony event. This traditional Japanese ritual involves the ceremonial preparation and presentation of matcha, a powdered green tea. It was a humbling experience to relearn my culture and appreciate the art, tradition, and discipline that goes into this simple yet profound ceremony. It reminded me of the importance of mindfulness and being present.

Kickstarting “Self Hack”

One of my main objectives for this trip was to kick off a corporate wellness program called Self Hack in Tokyo. Teaming up with well-being specialists and athletes, we aim to promote health and wellness in the corporate world. The program focuses on various aspects of wellness, including physical health, mental well-being, and work-life balance. It's an exciting project I'm thrilled to participate in.

Podcasting with Redbox Japan

I had the opportunity to record a podcast with my teammate from Redbox Japan. This amazing initiative supports young people during their periods by providing red boxes filled with free period products to local schools. It was an enlightening conversation about the challenges faced by young people and the importance of providing support and resources. I'm proud to be associated with such a noble cause.

Reunion with Childhood Friends

Last but not least, I reunited with my friends from elementary school. It was a nostalgic trip down memory lane, reminiscing about our childhood antics and seeing how far we've come. It reminded us of the enduring bonds of friendship and the shared experiences that shape us.

This trip to Japan blended personal growth, cultural exploration, and professional development. It reminded me of the importance of staying connected to our roots while striving for growth and evolution. Until next time, stay healthy and keep hacking!
