Spartan race Boston at Fenway Park 2019
Let me share my crazy Saturday experience. I did my 3rd Spartan at Fenway Park in Boston Well, I prefer to compete in the elite division because it begins at first and in the early morning. However, today I didn’t only compete in the elite division but also competed as a Body Amour group too in the afternoon. It was so much fun. Guess what!? I had my wife give a try on her stadium sprint for the first time! She is a Yogi, but not an athlete, but I supported her as well as other Body Armor team members during team run. It was an amazing experience.
What is Spartan Race?
Spartan Race is a series of obstacle races of varying distance and difficulty ranging from 3 miles to marathon distances. They are held in the US and have been franchised to 30 countries, including Canada, Japan, Australia, and several European countries. The series include the Spartan Sprint, the Super Spartan, the Spartan Beast, and the Ultra Beast. I participated in the "Sprint" division, which as about 5K at the race offered in the stadium of Fenway park Boston, MA. If you are a baseball fan, it would be cool to see inside of a historic stadium.
When it comes to the Spartan race, this is the place and opportunity to bring all my frustration. At this time, I was supposed to compete for a title shot, but it didn’t happen last month. Training for MMA, especially for competition, is different from other sports because you consume your body and build inevitable damage as engage in a combat situation, such as sparring and grappling. In my opinion, you should not spar all the time because as you get hit in your head, AKA, brain, it would build trauma and be a cause of TBI or other brain issues in the future. However, fighters need to be in shape and ready for whatever comes for next, so being active (in a smart way) is very important.
That was my mindset as I arrived at the stadium in the early morning. Then I saw familiar faces. My training/sparring partners big Sean and Kris were also in the elite division. They were thinking the same thing! We just tried to have fun. I was very impressed by these two because they did well for the first time race. Fighters are no joke, right?
I used to play baseball, so competing in Fenway park was so much fun, and I enjoyed seeing all the places such as green monstah, locker rooms, and VIP rooms during the race. I have been to Red Sox game in the past but never seen each area of the stadium.
In the race, all I missed was spear throwing. I never make it…lol Does anybody know where I can improve this technique?
A few days ago, my manager texted me if I want a free spartan race. Since Body Amor is sponsoring UFC and offering some deals to Top Game Management I belong to, they were looking for extra members for a team run for promotion. I was already registered for elite division, but group run sounds fun, so I persuade my wife and brought her to the Body Armor team.
I finished the elite race, came back home, chill a little bit, and show my wife spartan obstacles. She was very nervous, so I told her I’d help when you hit a hard obstacle. To me, even though I was tired from the earlier race, the second one sounds fun, and I didn’t worry about time. Other team members were so nice, and most of them were first-timers, which made my wife feel better.
A second heat, I was so optimistic and a big mouth during the race. Since I know all obstacles, I talked to members about what comes next during race and push/carry their back. When one of the members couldn’t jump over a wall, I got his feet and carry over my shoulder so that he could jump over that obstacle. My wife was doing well, and she said that the hardest thing was the 30 burpee penalty. Make sense.
Well, my body got beat up because I ran twice. My wife was hypoglycemia after the race. We enjoyed a post-race meal at the Vietnamese Pho restaurant to replenish glycogen. What a crazy Saturday for me!
